SA completed a study exploring cultural understanding as an essential element of situational awareness and a critical force protection measure that enhances warfighters' ability to sense and respond to indications and warnings that can be difficult to detect in a foreign cultural environment. SA surveyed the pre-deployment training currently available to warfighters and prioritized capability shortfalls in the area of cultural understanding. SA assessed how new and emerging technologies and developments in human effectiveness science could augment DoD's current training curriculum and developed an investment strategy to develop technology- and science-based solutions to meet critical needs.
